Introducing the members

Alison
I live in Minnesota USA (but born and brought up in Newcastle Upon Tyne). I learned rug hooking at a local community education class about 10 years ago. I gave it up for a while because of arthritis then got back into rug hooking more seriously about 2 years ago when I discovered it was an art form I really love. Mostly hook, I have prodded a border and I bought a punch needle from Cilla but have not used it yet. I mostly use wool fabrics, often recycled. Just starting to explore yarns and other materials. Yes indeed I am a dyer!! Fabric preparation and dying is a big part of the fun.

Miranda Auckland
I live near Huddersfield in Yorkshire. I have been rugging on and off since the 1980’s but mostly in the last 10 years.I like to prod best of all but I have hooked, although I need practise in this! and have done just a little punch needle. I use all sorts of fabrics, fleece fabric is one of my favourites and I like to use beads, buttons, ribbon etc where appropriate. I have been to workshops and done dyeing with plants and flowers and indigo dyeing, but very little at home.

Jennifer
I am from Yorkshire have been  Rug making since 2006. I hook and prod using wool for preference. I am not a dyer

Jenny Bealing I live in the far West of Cornwall and have been hooking for 2 years. I was introduced to hooking as a "green" hobby and therefore initially only used recycled textiles but have since branched out a bit and also use yarn now. Most of my work has been hooked but I have done a little bit of proddy. So far I haven't done any dying.

Linda Bishop
I live in Texas USA have been Rug making since 1995 mostly hook and have prodded on rug. I use wool new and as-is from clothing/blankets wool-blend and synthetic fabrics as needed for a specific look or purpose and I mostly overdye to get as is wool to the colour I need.

Freddie
Lives in East Yorkshire

June Gregory Lives in Nottingham has been rug making 10+ years. hooks, prods,  punch hooks. Uses Woolyarn,Wool Blankets & wool Flannel and is a dyer.

Jan Haines
Lives in Kent England has  been Rug making  since  childhood, but
seriously for around 25 years. Hooks prods and punches and more
besides I prefer wool to anything else, but have  been known to use
t-shirts, ribbons, velvets etc.  I love to discover new colour ways
within the  dye bath.

Janet Hull I live in Yorkshire in the Uk not far from the beautiful dales. Been
rug hooking for about 20 months. I have used different methods to make my
rugs hooked and proddy rugs only I prefer to use a bodger. I have done some
locker hooking and have been doing a bit of punch needle need more practise.
My favorite material is pure wool although I am starting to use some other types
of material too. I sometimes like to dye my own wool and have had some good
results.

Jenny Johns
lives in Cumbria and has been hooking for 5 years I hook
and prod and occasionally punch. I work on hessian and use any
materials as long as they are suitable for purpose eg. wools, dyed
blankets for mats and anything for other items. I microwave dye and
like to use and develop other methods.

Lynda Lives in Nottingham

Wendy Lindsay lives in Perth Scotland and has been rug making for 11
years I hook wool and I am a dyer

Debbie Marais
I live in  Shropshire England have been Rug making for   18 years I hook anything and everything and I don't dye

Mary Jane Peabody
I live in New Hampshire, in the northeast corner of the United States. I have been making hooked rugs for about twelve years, and have done a lot of proddy rugmaking, too, since living in England half-time during the past eight years. I enjoy both (both proddy and hooky, both England and the US!)
I usually use 100% wool for hooked rugs, since I use a fairly narrow cut, #6 strips. Some of it is new and a lot is recycled from thrift shop clothes. For proddy, I will use a wider range, some sweaters and blends along with wool.
I do dye for special projects or when I just feel like playing with dyes. I do a lot of marrying wool or marbelizing. But I like using wool as I find it, too, especially plaids and the nice effects they create

Shirley
Lives in County Durham

Angela Webber
I live in Harrogate ,North Yorkshire England. I have been Rag Rugging for about twenty years but still have lots to learn. I do proddy and hooking and I try mostly to use recycled clothing or blanket. I would like to start using my shuttle hook more and I have recently learned how to do punch needle work which is really fun. I have not really done any serious dyeing of my fabrics so I could set myself the challenge of learning how to do it properly! I am looking forward to this project and being motivated to try new ideas

Barbara Wilder
